India's growing beef trade

Arezou Rezvani's article on CNN - Growing beef trade hits India's sacred cow

Good Article on how the Beef industry continues to grow in India, despite our claims of how sacred and inseparable both Gau mata and Lord GopalaKrishna are.

The key culprits here are the Hindu's  - not the muslim's or christians or any others. They are the single most important reason as to why Cattle slaughter has reached the stage it has in India. The rest of the folks are mere opportunists - some to consume meat, some for leather, most of them - for the good money it delivers.

Why Hindu's are the prime reason :

Cattle are an inseparable part of each Hindu's household irrespective of which caste, creed, social or economic strata, he or she belongs to. There are sufficient references in ancient Hindu scriptures that most of the spiritual or religious activity a Hindu performs is incomplete without cattle, especially the cow.

Despite such spiritual significance, the cow is given least importance in their life. Though most Hindu families would have owned atleast a few dozen cattle just a few decades back, now close to 90 - 95 % (good guess) of them do not even own one cow. Cattle rearing has become an activity limited only cowherds and milk diaries, both who look after cows for money.

While most Hindu families still hold the cow or Gau Mata (Mother Cow) as its fondly called in high esteem, most of them :
  1. Do not own cattle
  2. Are not involved in rearing cattle
  3. Do not support saving cattle that are sent for slaughter
  4. No active participation in Protests that seek ban on Cow slaughter
  5. Are not concerned about sick, old, infertile cattle, bulls and oxen.
  6. Seek to enjoy benefits - Milk, Dairy products, Leather, Cow Dung, Urine etc.,
  7. But do not seek to contribute to the cause even in a minimal way
  8. Are not even aware of the challenges
  9. And the few who are aware, chose to do nothing apart from sighing

Other communities are not far behind :

 "Do to your neighbor ...."

"And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise" Luke 6:31
But our brothers from other mothers (religions) think otherwise. While they claim to be minorities, they fail to understand that they need to be respectful about the majority's religious beliefs and take definitive steps to gain their respect and love.
Most non-hindu Indians would not think twice before openly discussing beef, cooking the same in Hindu neighborhoods, selling / buying beef etc., India's humiliated and repressed majority often sulks and sinks back without retort or retaliation. For how long is the question ? Aren't we  are all too familiar with what happens afterwards ?

Pseudo Secular Media

There is an affliction that particularly the Indian press suffers from. It is called as SECULARISM. It should be read as pseudo secularism. This goes back probably to the early 70's - introduced perhaps by well meaning people. But now in its gargantuan proportions, its roots and side effects have a totally different objective, vision and mission altogether.

Implicitly put, the pressure they are able to wield on India's pseudo intelligentsia cannot even be estimated. India has turned out to be in recent times, a country that has buried its originality 6 feet under and often looks up to libertarian or free thinking views (read as western press) to shape its rapidly changing societal climate.

There have been multiple email forwards on how the Indian press house's are controlled by various faces that eventually lead back - primarily to different branches of the Christian church and Islamic powers. While such information may need to be ratified, it may be surprisingly true -given,  the battering Right Wing Hindu groups, get by these channels and newspapers.

Serial Blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad (July 2008)

The blasts that occurred on 27th and 28th July was truly shocking. For once it was not only on TV, but in your face as well. For most Bangaloreans, the shock was very private.... , they called 'their' near ones and hurried home to make sure 'their' people were safe. I wonder how many educated people even thought why this happens and how to stop this, apart from saying '... its all because of Muslims'.
To make it easy for all of them... let me answer.. all this is because of you losers, who despite being educated, do not vote !

Our Lok Sabha and Vidhana Sabha heroes were shocked too... not sure how to start trading charges. I am really tired of these bastards running this country like their personal whore house.

Congrats Bangalore ! you've got on to the terror map. This will be a location every fancy terrorist will want to visit and leave his indelible mark for his share of Jannat. As any other Indian, I did not want to presume that this tragedy would have Islamic terrorist roots. But the claims are out and yet again, we've all been proved wrong.

Message to the Congress Party : Congratulations ! After five decades of ruling India, you finally have something significant to write home about. LOSERS !!!!

A Funny Poem !

A visitor at home.. a slightly strange one - a common lizard, inspired me to write this poem, If i can call it that :)

L I Z Z Y

There's a lizard in my room
dont wanna hit him with a broom

he's lost all hope
and is high on dope..

he's too slow to be true
i wonder what was his brew

spaced or stoic ?
or did he just have a bad childhood ?

he sits in a dark corner
while I brood over his manner

wonder what he's thinkin
cos' his eyes aint blinkin

wonder if he's like the raven
always saying ' never more'

guess I could never say
cos' I aint Edgar Allan Poe !

Kannada Cinema : Piracy ?

In my continuing awe of the Kannada Film Industry, I'd like to put down some peculiarities that I noticed. Im glad to note that, I found some of them very heartening !

The entire industry seems to be well knit (or well controlled ?) in their fight against video piracy. Since my earlier visits to National Market, in Gandhinagar, Bangalore, I have noticed pirated DVD's of all South Indian languages except for Kannada. I have found this to be very strange, for the Indian ingenious mind is always adept at finding the back door quickly. This is indeed a victory for the industry ! DVD's are apparently not printed until 5-7 years after the release of the movie. The only downside I could find - I have missed some recent, good Kannada movies and the only way to watch them is on TV with a zillion ad's or wait for 5-7 years....!

Coming to the better part : While shopping for the Aa Dinagalu CD, I noticed the price tag of some of the new stuff and was absolutely amazed by the pricing ! For 50 bucks, I had the music of about 3 movies. On some CD's it was 5 movies and 8 movies on some others.. all for a mere 50 bucks !!! It was unbelievable ..! I ended up with a good haul of about 6 CD's costing me just - Rs.300 in total. Btw, the quality is excellent and the print job is cool, as well. With that money, I wonder how many SONY or EMI CD's I could have bought of The Beatles or Britney !

What I really appreciate here is that the Suppliers have taken away the need for Piracy. They've kept the CD's affordable and presented a splendid mix of movies for the cine buff to listen to and enjoy - while NO intellectual property is infringed upon ! Sheer common sense and Economics may be... but worthy of praise ..!! DEFINITELY YES !!

A job very well done & this time its for our cine industry to give a strong pat on its own back!

Kannada Cinema : Aa Dinagalu

Rating : 4.5 out of 5

Confession - My recent decision to go on a Kannada Cinema binge was the confidence this movie gave me. Kudos to the director for presenting the story so well. I might just see this movie again.

This film represents the underworld days of the late 80's in Bangalore city, which had the blessings of many politicians, and , of which real life gangsters - Jairaj and Kotwal Ramachandra were the primary stakeholders. The storyline is presented by Agni Sreedhar, who is also a part of the movie and is played by Atul Kulkarni very well. Director Chaitanya does justice to the topic without any gore or any explicit gut-wrenching scenes of violence- a commendable feat indeed !

The contrast between the two key themes of the movie - the dark and sinister underworld and the sunny , happy love life of the two innocent lovers - played by Chetan & Archana, has been blended, almost seamlessly. Ashish Vidyarthi's role as Jairaj is good, but lacks the usual extra eccentric punch that he delivers. The surprise toast is Sharath Lohithashwa who is very convincing as Kotwal Ramachandra - and steals the show with his strong acting skills & dialogue delivery.

The photography and Art direction are commendable too. [They have used only Ambassadors, Contessa's , No cell phones, guns etc., The TV's shown in the background are also of that time]. Music Maestro Ilayaraja gives us wonderful songs, which I have been humming since I saw the movie. The songs are few but are MUST listens !

PS: I promptly went and bought the CD's too !
